I2S CARD
I2S CARD
The I2S interface is a proprietary connection designed for use with the Bricasti M19 SACD/CD Reference Digital Transport and Bricasti Design DACS. When paired, they create an exceptional synergy, allowing the DAC to function as if it were an integrated part of the transport.
This connection offers noticeable sonic improvements across the entire sound spectrum, revealing nuances and clarity that elevate the listening experience.
I2S SUPER
PERFORMANCE
The IS2 interface is now available on all models of our DACS. Additionally, existing customers can upgrade their DACs to incorporate IS2 card, unlocking its transformative potential. Together, the M19 and I2S interface deliver seamless integration and unparalleled performance.
I2S TIMING
PRECISION
I2S, also known as Inter-IC Sound, is an electrical serial bus interface standard used for communication between digital audio data integrated circuits (ICs). We commonly employ it to facilitate communication between digital audio processing chips, such as digital-to-analog converters (DACs), and microcontrollers or digital signal processors (DSPs).
-
I2S, or Inter-IC Sound, is a serial bus interface standard that transfers digital audio data between components, like DACs and microcontrollers or DSPs. It’s commonly employed to carry PCM data between a CD transport and DAC.
Bricasti products feature a proprietary I2S connection, ensuring compatibility only within our ecosystem. I2S separates clock and data signals, resulting in low jitter and accurate data transfer. Unlike other protocols, I2S doesn’t use error correction, requiring the receiver to synchronize with the transmitter.

I2S Timing & Data Format
The I2S bus uses at least three data lines:
Bit Clock (SCK): Defines the transmission rate.
Word Select (WS): Indicates the left or right channel.
Data Line (SD): Carries the audio data with the MSB first.
In some cases, a Master Clock (MCLK) is used for synchronization.
-
I2S is used in audio codecs, digital interfaces, sound cards, amplifiers, and audio processors. Its simplicity, efficiency, and ability to transmit high-quality audio without significant degradation are preferred.
-
I2S enables high-fidelity data transfer over short distances within devices. For longer runs, SPDIF (or AES/EBU) offers greater flexibility. We recommend using Bricasti-approved cables for short runs to ensure optimal performance.
